More notes: "As you might remember, on the Grateful Dead's last tour in 1995, there was a 'riot' at their first Deer Creek date. A bunch of the fans outside participating in the lot scene tore down the back wall of the venue and got inside. As a result, ever since then, security at Deer Creek in the parking lot has been strict to the point of absurdity. As soon as you're parked, they're at your heels shoving you in the venue. So don't expect to meet up with other people out in the parking lot - security won't let it happen. They've done this at every show I've ever been to at Deer Creek since the riot."
Also, and probably more seriously, the local police agencies have a
nasty habit of picking shows that attract what they consider an
'undesirable' element and choosing those shows to setup after-concert
checkpoints on the road to/from I-69 to check for drugs and booze. They
do it a couple of times a year... and while I doubt that they'll pick
PJ, I can't guarantee they won't. I always go out the back way to
Indiana 37 anyways... they never check that road.
Even more notes: if you're sitting in the lawn, a perfect spot is about 1/3 of the way up, so not only can you see the band, but the big tv screens overhead...also, a lot of the time they let people in way-early, so try to get there early to check out the soundcheck...if nothing else but to hear it.
More: "Deer Creek in the middle of nowhere. Basically, it is located between the Hatfield's and the McCoy's farms. Not really any easy way in or out. A great campground is located just a few minutes away in Pendleton. It is visible from the highway off to the left when heading north on I-69. The campground usually fills up quick though...
Indiana state police are tough. Drinking and drugs receive
absolutely no tolerance. Moreover, Indiana is reputed for their use of
excise officers who basically arrest underage drinkers. They are NOT
usually uniformed. All you get is the flash of the badge and your
citation and perhaps an all expense paid trip to the local lockup.
Finally: Indiana observes Central Time during each DeerCreek season (April through October). [this is IMPORTANT! i once almost missed a show driving from ohio to indiana during the summer cuz of the time zone thing.]

Notes: "Bring lots
of food and water, because depending on the promoter, it might get
pricey. Also bring some sunscreen and an umbrella, 'cause you'll be
outside and at the mercy of the elements. This venue usually has a good
vibe, and no one stays in their seats (there are none). Even from far
back, the sound is pretty good."
Directions: By Car: From Toronto: Take Hwy #401 to Hwy #400 North. Exit at Molson Park Drive. Alternate Routes: Hwy #27 or Hwy #11.
Notes:"Park at the Wal-Mart (or Kmart, or whatever the hell it is)
just to the right (when heading north) just before you hit the exit for the
park. You'll save yourself about 2 hours. You'll save 30mins on the way in,
and at least an hour and a half on the way out. This way you're not in a rush

Pittsburgh, PA

Opening act: Iggy Pop
TM venue
On-sale date: April 4 at 10am
Capacity: 24,000
Seating chart
Directions: Twenty-five miles due west from downtown Pittsburgh on Route 18 south in Burgettstown, Pa. The amphitheatre is also conveniently located for concert-goers from Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland.
Notes: "First, if the show is sold out there will be a five stop check point, a very big hassle! One counts heads, one takes fees, the other looks at tickets and counts heads...just unreal. You can pay $6.00 for "privilege parking"...but take the walk, it's not to bad. You can bring a blanket, but no chairs, beverages, or food inside. You can rent/buy those once inside. They have everything but my mom onsale there too...even a record shop [NRM]...and it all ranges from affordable to pricey.
"They serve mixed drinks, and have food from fast food chains, to fine dining. You can even buy a picnic basket to take to the lawn. [although with PJ, that would be kinda' funny.] Warning: Once inside the venue, you CANNOT LEAVE and be readmitted. And a special note to some who don't know...there are shuttles to take you to the Starlake and bring you back for a fee. It's on their website, I believe.
"You can tailgate in the parking lot, and they don't like the alcohol... but if you are peaceful, you'll have no problems. Inside the bathroom lines are incredibly long. As is getting into the place itself. Fans will be given the hassles of being turned away with ANY recording or photography equipment...and they check every square nook of your body to find something. They use a metal detector wand. However, the place is nothing but opened forest with mesh orange fence. You can easily alley oop something through it, and retrieve it once inside. Hint...have a friend in first.
"There is room there for a "pit", and the first chairs are some 20ft. from the stage. Seeing the show from the "pavillion", no matter where you are seated, is pretty okay. From the lawn, you can see the stage...but NOT in great detail, but not to worry...there are 7 monitor screens. The sound system is great, and I understand that Starlake has just spent some thousands of dollars, boosting their system even more! This place is a direct shot to get to from downtown Pgh, and traffic isn't a big deal until you've reached the ramp that actually leads up to the venue. And since this thing is in August, bring a jacket or pants or something to keep you warm! Once the sun goes down, you'll be chilled."

Notes: Several people have noted the fact that while the closest major city to this venue is Philly, the venue is in fact in Camden, NJ, which was a very dangerous place when Caryn lived on the East Coast, and apparently hasn't changed. You are cautioned to not leave anything valuable in your car during the show, and not to walk around the area outside of the venue, since the local criminal element tends to target concert-goers. Notes: Parking is included in the price of your ticket, but apparently sucks (seems to be a common problem).
Directions:From Boston: take I-95 South, to Exit 7A-140 South, follow for 3 miles. From Worcester: take 495 South, to Exit 11. From Providence: take I-95 North, to Exit 6A-495 South, to Exit 11. From Cape Cod: take 495 North, to Exit 10-123, follow 123 West to 140 North.
Note: It might be a good idea to note that those coming from south of Providence can avoid going through the city by taking I-295 around it. The exit for 295 is Exit 11. It connects with I-95 again in Massachusetts around Exit 4 or 5. It's not that big of a deal, but I know some people like avoiding traffic. Plus 95 through Providence can get really tough at times. The travel time is roughly the same.
More Notes: "Just wanted to let anyone from out-of-town traveling to Great Woods know that there is not much there in terms of lodging. The venue is well ouside the city which makes it very intimate and relaxed, but sacrifices resources such as lots of nearby hotels or restaurants."
