Welcome to Song X.
The purpose of this feature is to focus at length on a particular song: its history, origins, meanings, and other in-depth history, information and analysis. This feature is not about just uploading yet another random mp3 to the web server; it is a chance to leisurely explore and examine PJ's music in depth.
Formerly known as "Song of the Month," the purpose has not changed, but the format has. We are removing the deadline aspect of the feature, as we found it extremely destructive to the "fun" aspect of the work and the web site. Writing about something interesting you've just discovered is fun; trying desperately to find something interesting because you have a self-imposed deadline is not fun.
Our problem is not lack of ideas; we have a million of them. Our problem is, and always will be, finding the time to devote to the type of explorations we feel are worthy of this feature. For this reason, we don't take requests; writing to us to say "Hey I think this would be a good Song X" doesn't help, because we still have to have something to say about it.
